She was born September 12, 1931 in Robeson County.
Hazel worked for many years at the B. C. Moore store in downtown St. Pauls. A woman of faith, she attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of St. Pauls (also known as The Life Center).
She was a very humble person who loved everyone. Hazel liked to go shopping and collecting “what nots” and she loved crossword puzzle books.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, John David Anderson; her parents, Simeon B. Blackburn and Mary Elizabeth Carter-Blackburn; her sister, Jean Thompkins; her brothers: Windel Blackburn, Bernice Blackburn and Edward Blackburn.
She is survived by her sisters: Mabel Garrett of St. Pauls, Joyce Thompkins and her husband Matt of Lumberton, Linda Jackson of St. Pauls, Mary Blake of Aberdeen, Kathy Dudney and husband Brice of Lumberton, and Sue Byrd of Fuquay-Varina; her brothers: Loyd Blackburn and his wife Marilyn of St. Pauls, Charles Blackburn and his wife Marilyn of St. Pauls, and Donnie Blackburn and his wife Debra of Lumberton; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Tolarsville Baptist Church with the Reverend Ray Faircloth, Sr. officiating. The burial services will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
