He was born in Nebraska on Dec. 10, 1887, son of Louis and Alice Hamel, and was married on Nov. 7, 1911, to Miss Meta Wolter, who preceded him in death on May 10, 1955. On June 8, 1963, he was married to Mrs. Elsie Edgell.
Mr. Hamel operated a barber shop of Merritt Avenue for 54 years before retiring two years ago. He was a member of First Evangelical United Brethren Church, past president and past secretary of the local barbers union.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie; one daughter, Mrs. Earl Zwicky, Oshkosh; four brothers, Courtland, Malon, Gaylord and Royal Hamel, Withee, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Baker, Withee, and Mrs. Phil Sentzling, Shell Beach, Calif.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Evangelical United Brethren Church, with the Rev. Homer H. Retzlaff officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Konrad Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. on Friday, and at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the hour of services.
