In Memoriam
Mary Beckwith was born Nov. 1, 1825, in Monroe County, New York. In her early life she came with her parents to Michigan and settled in Ionia County at East Plains, where she lived until four years ago. She was married November 13, 1845, to Madison R. Vance of East Plains. Three children were born to this union, two of whom with four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren remain to mourn her loss. In her early married life she was converted and with her husband became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and remained a faithful Christian to her death. Her husband preceded her to the better land May 13, 1908, since which time she has made her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. John Blakeslee of Carson City. She had been in failing health for some time and in spite of all that kind ministration could do, passed away on the evening of Sept. 6th, full of hope for her eternal home.
The funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. J. H. Blakeslee Monday morning, Rev. V. H. Wade officiating. The remains were taken to East Plains cemetery for interment.
