GALENA, KANSAS: Anna May Adams, age 86 passed away at 10:22 am, Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the home of her daughter following an illness.

Anna May was born February 10, 1934 in Cedar Vale, KS. Her parents were Harley and Lina (Smith) Hill. She moved to Galena in the early 1950’s.

She graduated from Baxter Springs High School with the class of 1952.

She worked as an inspector at Pacific Mercury/Dorflex and later at Motorola/Display Tech for several years. She and her husband also owned and operated the Galena Skating Rink and later the Crown Lanes Bowling Alley.

She was a member of New Hope Assembly, Joplin, MO. She was known to be a very caring, loving person. Her family was her greatest joy. She was a talented artist and crafter and had researched genealogy for several generations of her family.

She was married to Lee Adams on October 12, 1952 in Bentonville, AR. He preceded her in death December 19, 2009.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law, Kim Adams, her siblings, Juanita White, Darlene Hill, Nadine Thompson, and Clarence Hill, her sister-in-law, Charlene Hill-Stapleton, and a nephew, Ray Adams that she was very close to.

Surviving is one son, Ronnie Adams (Charlottte Rush), Fayetteville, AR; one daughter, Anna Lee Alumbaugh (Rick), Loma Linda, MO; one brother, Wesley Hill (Pat), Coweta, OK; grandchildren, Jodi Alumbaugh (Justin Hartje), Scott Alumbaugh, Ryan Adams, Jessica Adams (Michael Bartholomew), and Chris Krei; 3 great-grandchildren, Casey Krei (Ashlyn), Quentin Krei, and Isla Bartholomew; two great-great grandchildren, Carter Krei and Marley Krei; and two nieces that she was close to, Kathy Dunbar and Katrina (Mike) Callstrom.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 25, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Bob Winnett will officiate.

Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, KS.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — Mrs. Lina R. Hopkins, 67, 304 Grant, died at 5:05 p.m. Friday in Baxter Memorial Hospital where she was admitted as a patient Wednesday.

Born April 17, 1902, in Spring City, Mo., she had lived in Baxter the last 18 years, moving here from Wellington, Kan. She was a member of the Galena Assembly of God Church. She was married to Bill Hopkins in Miami, Okla., on Oct. 18, 1957.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Clarence Hill of Baxter Springs and Wesley Hill, Carl Junction, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Jaunita (sic) White, Sedan, Kan., Mrs. Darlene Pittman, Farlington, Kan., and Mrs. Anna May Adams, Galena; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be announced by Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena.

Note: 13 grandchildren, the 3 is not all there. It could also be 18.

The Rev. Jerry McCamey will officiate. Burial will be in the Lowell, Kan., Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ray Adams, Johnnie Hess, Bob Goodrich, Jack Daniels, Charley Daniels and Ethmer (sic)Daniels.

The family will be at 2215 Sunset Drive Monday.

SEDAN, Kan. — Juanita May White, 65, Sedan route 1, died at 10:03 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after an illness.

Mrs. White was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Newton County, Mo., and had lived in Sedan most of her life. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

She married Ward L. White on May 16, 1942, in Little Rock, Ark. He survives.

Also surviving are a son, Omond White, Wichita; one daughter, Twila Schoolcraft, Fredonia; two brothers, Wesley Hill, Carl Junction, Mo. and Clarence Hill, Baxter Springs; one sister, Mrs. Anna Mae (sic) [May] Adams, Joplin route 6, and four grandchildren.

Services and burial will be under the direction of Graves-Baird Funeral Home, Sedan.
