Robert J. “Bob” Deters, 88 of Teutopolis, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at Charleston Rehabilitation Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Friday, September 25, 2020, at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery with military graveside rites. Bob was born November 14,1931 in Effingham County, the son of Edward and Agnes (Nacke) Deters. He served with the US Army, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War. Bob married Doris J. Bloemer on November 26, 1959.

Bob was a dairy and grain farmer by trade until 1996. He, then, had a self proclaimed ‘fun’ job at Effingham Truck Sales, where he worked for another 15 years. He was a person who enjoyed getting up every morning to work. Bob had many hobbies which included playing cards, bowling, traveling, playing his harmonica and spending time with friends and family. For 49 years, he was one of the three kings that carried out the German Tradition of visiting and singing in area homes after Christmas. He was grateful to have been selected to go on the Honor Flight with other veterans that toured our nation’s capitol.

Bob was a member of St. Francis Church in Teutopolis, the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus, VFW Post #1769 and the American Legion Post #924. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and was ecstatic to have seen them win a World Series in his lifetime.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorie of Teutopolis; children Kevin, Karlene (Ted) Brumleve and Kristi Sabo, all of Teutopolis, Kim (Tom) James of O’Fallon, MO and Karen (Larry) Finfrock of Altamont; four grandchildren, Damon and Devin Sabo and Aidan and Callie James; brother, Richard (Stella) Deters of Boulder, CO.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Repking; brother-in-law Louis Repking; father and mother-in-law, John and Josephine Bloemer; brother-in-laws, Clete Deters, Jack Bloemer, Fred Flach and Jim Watson; sister-in-law Alice Watson and godson, Wes Watson.
