Malian Dictator. He served as President of Mali from 1968 to 1991. When was born in Kayes Region, Traoré he studied at Kita and at the military academy in Fréjus, France and returned to Mali after the country became independent in 1960. As a Lieutenant of the army he led the military to remove Modibo Keïta’s Presidential position in 1968. Thereafter he served as head of state until March 1991, when he was overthrown by massive protests and a military coup d'état.
