Born in Defiance to German immigrants, the family moved to Delphos when he was very young. He married Margaretha Mandel in Sept. 1861 in Delphos and they later moved to Akron, Ohio. Her 1905 obit says she was buried at St. Vincent Cemetery and he is believed to be buried there as well.
