Thelma Merlene Cain was born on March 8, 1920 in Edom, Texas to James Henry Dike and Lola Montez Brewer.  As a centenarian, Mrs. Cain has witnessed many events and many changes throughout our world, throughout her beloved Texas, and in her personal life.  She had a passion for Texas Garden Clubs and floral designing.  Her greatest love was spending time with her family.

     Merlene Cain passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 in Katy, Texas at the age of 100 years.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe P. Cain on August 23, 2008; by her parents, James Henry Dike and Lola Montez Brewer; and by all seven of her siblings.

     She is survived by her daughters, Robin Gaido of Houston and Carol Smith and her husband Larry of Simonton, Texas; her son, Joe Cain, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; grandchildren, Ashley Gaido, Matt Smith and his wife Amy, Jennifer Johnston and her husband Travis, Mandy Sisco and her husband Lance, David Cain, and Stephanie Cain; great grandchildren, Mady Smith, Katie Smith, Evie Smith, Jackie Smith, Taylor Transou, Blake Transou, Allie Sisco, Caleb Sisco, Riley Sisco, and Griffin Sisco; and numerous other loving family members and family friends.

     A family only graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the Houston National Cemetery, with Rev. Steve Littlefield officiating.
