Obituary from The Messenger of Truth Issue 1, 2001:

John N. Friesen was born to Peter K. and Katherine Nikkel Friesen on November 28, 1913, at Lehigh, Kansas. He departed this life on November 22, 2000, at the Moundridge Manor, Moundridge, Kansas, just six days short of his eighty-seventh birthday. He spent his growing up years in the Hillsboro, Kansas, community.
At the age of nineteen, he realized his need of a Savior. Upon true repentance and forgiveness of his sins, he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 12, 1933, by Min. Hiram Mininger. He remained true to the vows he made to God and His church.
In 1938, he moved with his parents to Winton, California. On February 12, 1939, he was married to Lena Giesbrecht, enjoying sixty-one years of married life. To this union were born one son and four daughters.
Dad and Mother spent several years in Winton, California. But being interested in new congregations, they moved to Glenn, California, in 1951. Twenty years later they moved to Buhl, Idaho. Dad's lifelong occupation was farming. We remember Dad as a good steward and a good provider. The Church was precious to him. Dad was involved in building several churches where they lived.
When Mother's health failed and Dad was no longer able to care for her, they moved to Moundridge, Kansas, where she entered the Moundridge Manor. Dad had an apartment next to the home. He was a devoted husband, spending most of his time with her.
Dad suffered a stroke on May 16, 2000, from which he never recovered. He peacefully passed away, and we feel confident he is at rest.
Surviving him are his wife, Lena, Moundridge, Kansas; son, Wesley and Anna Marie Friesen; daughters: Virginia and Leonard L. Koehn, Buhl, Idaho; Evelyn and Lowell Jantz, Filer, Idaho; Gladys and Raymond Litwiller, and Valerie and Leon Koehn, Buhl, Idaho; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; one brother, Jake and Sarah Friesen, also of Buhl, Idaho, and one sister, Martha Martens, Moundridge, Kansas.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on November 27, 2000, at the Valley View Mennonite Church, Filer, Idaho. Ministers Wayne Amoth and Kent Wiebe officiated. Burial was in the Buhl Congregation church cemetery, Buhl, Idaho. Min. Harold Eck was in charge.
