Howard Vernon Jackson

Early Life: Howard was born January 4, 1949, in Provo, Utah, to Martin and Norma Ora Paulson Jackson. He was a drummer with a small band when he was in high school. He also played percussion for the high school band. He graduated from Provo High School. When Howard was 18, his father passed and he helped his mother raise his younger brothers.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: Howard earned degrees in building construction management and business management from Utah Technical College (now Utah Valley University). He spent his years working with his hands and was able to repair anything he came across, whether it was an electrical issue or a car. He worked for Wesko Cabinets and Trailers, building cabinets for homes and campers. He built his own home while working for Robinson-Wilson Real Estate, and built others homes as well. He spent 37 years working for the Brigham Young University carpentry shop.
On October 2, 1969, Howard married Joan Elaine Andersen in the Manti Utah Temple. They celebrated their 50th anniversary last fall. Their honeymoon was spent at Bryce Canyon, enjoying a night in Salina after the car broke down. They returned many times over the years. Howard enjoyed taking his family camping and exploring Utah. He was an avid photographer and spent many hours archiving digital copies for his children.
He was dedicated to the Scouting program and the Church, serving faithfully as unit commissioner and other positions. He participated in planning and running Webelos Woods. He attended and facilitated many campouts. Howard was also committed to his fellowship and teaching callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, loyal to the families he was assigned and the friends he made. Howard served in the Daily Dose Program for many years teaching conversational English. Everyone who met him remembered him as a loving and gentle person despite his intimidating size. Howard Vernon Jackson died September 14, 2020, due to complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. He was 71.

Survived By: His spouse; children: Tamara (Jack) Johnson, Martin (Laurie) Jackson, Nacole Jackson, Tiffany (Grandon) Carter, James (Dixie) Jackson, Vernon Jackson; grandchildren: Crystal (Brady) Osbourne, Mykal Johnson, Kortni Jackson, Spencer Jackson, Samantha (Seth) Chipman, Kristina, Sarah, and Skye Carter, Graysen, Landon and Nora Jackson; his brother, Oran Jackson; and sister-in-law, Nancy Jackson.
