Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 2 PM, Sunday, May 19, 2002 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Taylor with Pastor David Tietz and Pastor Barry Taylor officiating. Burial to follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
Gilbert Franklin Kerlin was born February 25, 1917 to Eduard and Lena (Nickol) Kerlin in the Sandoval Community. Gilbert attended school in Thrall, the Military Academy at Fort Barksdale in Louisiana, and also the College of Mines in El Paso. He served and retired from the US Army Air Force where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Taylor, a past commander of the Taylor American Legion Post 139, a past member of the Masonic Lodge of Waco, the Sons of Hermann and also a member of the N.C.O. Gilbert was married to Helen Mikus on July 14, 1942. He was an avid "Ducks" sports fan. He loved farming and fishing. Gilbert was known as a man with an inventive mind. He was a problem solver and a great prankster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and one sister..
Survivors include his wife; Helen Kerlin of Taylor, son; Kelby Kerlin and wife, Shalene of Taylor; daughter; Mavis Sue Taylor and husband, Barry of Winters, five grandchildren; Kelly Kerlin and wife, Stephanie of West Columbia, Kylie Kerlin of Huntsville, Allison Threadgill and husband, Sam of Alto, Adam and Aaron Taylor both of Abilene, two great-grandchildren; Madison and Corbin Threadgill both of Alto, two brothers; Martin Kerlin and wife, Albina of Taylor and Otis Kerlin and wife, Margaret of Granger; and two sisters; Lydia Hurta of Waco and Martha Rodenbeck of Thorndale, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Kelly Kerlin, Sam Threadgill, Adam Taylor, Aaron Taylor, Ivan Leschber, David Lawrence Matt Pullen, and Pat Jezisek.
Honorary pallbearers include Ashley Robbins, Stephanie Kerlin, Kylie Kerlin, and Allison Threadgill.
