Lonnie “Boots” Eugene Quinn, 66 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at his home in Oxford. Boots was born on January 20, 1954, in Anchorage, Alaska, the second of four children, to Alonzo and Norma Jean (Mays) Quinn. He received his primary education from Edison Elementary School and later attended Oxford High School, where he graduated with the class of 1972. Boots pursued higher education and collegiate wrestling at Peru State and Kearney State Colleges. Boots worked as a conductor for BNSF Railroad, but he also found time to train racehorses.
On October 18, 1986, he married Bernice “Bernie” (Bunnell) Quinn and was blessed with four children: Revé, Brandon, Haley, and Chase.
Boots had many interests in life, starting with jockeying race horses at the tender age of 10. Although small in stature, he never backed down from a challenge, and one of the words always associated with Boots was “tough”. He loved things related to the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had a talent for training race horses, but putting family first, he knew his railroad job had to be his primary focus.
A natural athlete, he excelled as a baseball catcher, an undersized football player, a wrestler, and a basketball player. Boots and Bernie loved watching the kids and grandkids play sports, and he gave them his “analysis” after each game. Having a great love for his family, he cherished any moments he had with his kids and grandkids. As he become older, the toughness was still there, but he displayed his soft side when it came to the grandkids. Boots loved connecting with people, and struck up conversations with strangers wherever he went. He was loved and will be missed by many.
