Jan Elizabeth Wiley (née Duckworth), of Paris, MO, died unexpectedly on September 7, 2020, at Moberly Regional Medical Center at the young age of 59 years.

Jan was born in Macon, MO on August 16, 1961 to Earl “Buddy” and Doris (Thieman) Duckworth. She attended Macon County R-1 High School and then trained as a medical transcriptionist. She was united in marriage to Don Wiley in August of 1984 and worked for the VA Hospital in Columbia, MO before transitioning to full-time mom.

Jan was a devoted wife and mother and doted on her grandchildren. She was an Associate Member of the US Army 3rd Infantry Division Society and an American Ex-Prisoner of War Next-of-Kin and greatly enjoyed attending annual events around the country and meeting veterans and friends of her dad from WWII. Jan was often found reading books about the Amish, and she was active in the Paris Friends of the Library. Jan was always hoping there was a stash of hidden chocolate in the house and would question everyone before beginning her search. Maconites would often see her meticulously mowing her mom’s grass, but she was quick to stop and wave upon hearing someone honk. Jan was known for her love of children and her wonderful imagination in making up games and keeping them entertained. She would regularly check in with family and friends to ensure they were well and to catch up on news.

Jan is survived by her husband Don Wiley of Paris, MO; mother Doris Duckworth of Macon, MO; children Celeste Vaughn, Nathan Vaughn, Sara Martin, and Alisha Wiley; sister Susan (and husband Jon) McQuilkin; brother Neal (and wife Kate) Duckworth; seven grandchildren; mother-in-law Charlotte Wohlbold and family; and many cousins, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her dad Buddy, and uncle Raymond Duckworth and aunt Dorothy Williams of Macon, with whom she had especially close relationships. Funeral service was Friday, September 11th at Hutton – McElwain Funeral Home in Macon. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Immaculate Conception School, 401 N Rubey, Macon, MO 63552, or Paris Friends of the Library, 101 N Main, Paris MO 65275.
