He was preceded in death by a son Tommy Hester Jr.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Sue Olmstead; and four sisters, Helen Johnson, Mandy Gray, Thelma Caldwell and Beatrice Wyatt.
He retired from Burlington Industries and he was a member of Goshen Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Merry Hearts.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cooper Hester; two daughters, Deborah Olmstead of Lowell, Karen Fox and husband Chris of Mt Holly; a sister, Mattie Lee King of Gastonia; three brothers, John Franklin Hester and wife Christine of Mount Holly, Russell Hester of Denver, Roy Hester and wife Betty of Gastonia; grandchildren, Jimmy Honeycutt and fiancée Elizabeth Bryant, Aaron Olmstead, Curtis Fox, Christina Kirby and husband Matthew, Kristen Austin and husband Eric, Mandy Dixon and Shannon Hester, and great-grandchildren, Gabriele Kirby, William Kirby, Jada Meeler, Luke Austin, Jacob Joyner and Caleb Buckner; and his pre-cious Bassett Hound, Sam.
