Opal Faye Brown, 93, of Staunton, formerly of Gillespie died at Heritage Health of Staunton on Monday, September 7, 2020, at 3:05 p.m. She was born on May 21, 1927, in Dorchester to Harrison Sawyer and Laura Elizabeth (Swank) Sawyer.

She married Delbert C. Brown on June 28, 1969, in Staunton. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2008. She was an office manager for a doctor’s office.

She is survived by her children, Bob (Gayle) Frizzo of Gillespie, Rick (Cheri) Frizzo of Raymond, Rita (Francis) Genetti of Carlinville, Vicki DeWitt of Gillespie, and Jim (Marge) Brown of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Hennek, Jeremy Frizzo, Matthew Frizzo, Lauren Barry, Mike Frizzo, Mark Frizzo, Brad Genetti, Brian Genetti, and Adam Brown; 15 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Maudie Partridge and Marilyn Lee (Donald) Brown.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; grandson, Clint Stout; sisters, Edna Geraci, Lois Oehler, Hazel Bruhn, Toni Gobble, Bertha Pintar, Dorothy Mansholt, and Delores Adler; and brother, Ralph Sawyer.

Graveside services will be on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Staunton. Memorials are suggested to GUMC Work Mission Team or United Methodist Church of Staunton. Kravanya Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
