Mr. Johnny Lee Watson, age 92, departed this life on September 8, 2020, at the Big South Fork Medical Center. He was born October 8, 1927, in the Norma Community to the late William Sherman Watson and Lottie Marcum Watson. Johnny was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He also enjoyed gardening and coon hunting and was a member of the Helenwood Baptist Church where he was a deacon from 1987 until the present.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Mary Helen Murley Watson; children, Jimmy Lee Watson and Mary Ann Pennington; brothers, Hollis, Robert, and Glen Watson; sisters, Hattie Hatfield, Alene Hutson, Elsie Jeffers and Phyllis Lowe; brothers-in-law, Finley Hatfield, Charles Henry Lowe, Joe Hutson, Leonard Kirby, and Virgil Jeffers; sister-in-law: Bertha Watson.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Danny D. Pennington III, Carrie Thompson, Carmen Morris, Shawn Watson and Stacey Helvey; great-grandchildren, D.J., Raelan, Alex, Shayne, Clare, William, Jack, John Parker, Annalee, Adeline, Hudson, and Harper; daughter-in-law, Joyce Watson; brothers, Denton Jr., and James Watson and wife Nadine; sister, Bessie Kirby; and several nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, September, 10,2020 from 12:00 P.M. until time of funeral services at 2:00 P.M. at the Helenwood Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Watson and Bro. David Barnhouse officiating. Music will be provided by the Helenwood Baptist Church Choir. Burial will follow in the Reed Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #136.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of the Helenwood Baptist Church.

Due to Covid-19, and in cooperation with the Governor’s Executive Order #22, we ask that attendees maintain appropriate social distancing, observe current health guidelines, and be considerate of all others in attendance. Masks are required.
