Died
Of apoplexy, July 11, 1874, at her home near Watseka, Illinois, Mrs. Phoebe James, wife of Mr. A. H. James, in the 67th year of her age.
Mrs. James was born in Warren county, Ohio, October 10, 1807, and was married to the husband she now leaves to mourn her loss, September 21, 1826. For almost fifty years they have lived together in the holy bond of wedlock, sharing each other's joys and bearing each other's sorrows, trials and tribulations. For nearly forty years she has been a consistent, conscientious and devoted church member, walking hand in hand with her chosen companion in the way of truth and righteousness, "even down to the dark valley of shadow of death;" and though deprived of reason during her sickness which lasted only six hours, from her pure and sinless life she leaves behind the brightest evidence that God has sent his holy angels to carry her over the rough billows of the deep surging Jordan, to waft her spirit home to that haven of rest, for which the Christian ever longs. And as we, her husband, to whom she has been a faithful and devoted wife, and her children, to whom she has been a kind, and indulgent mother, feel so deeply the loss of her who was so dear to us, we realize that she is enjoying the pleasures of a home in "that city whose walls are jasper and whose streets are gold," joining her songs of praise and thanksgiving with friends and kindred who have gone before, and is rejoicing with the redeemed and sanctified around the throne of God.
