Aged 81 years, 2 months, 19 days.

David Blodgett Rouse, 81, died July 28, 2017 at Fairview Adult Foster Care & Assisted Living in Grand Ledge, Michigan. He was born in Wyandotte, Michigan to Harry Goodman Rouse and Ruth (Blodgett) Rouse on May 9, 1936. He was preceded in death in 2010 by the love of his life for more than 30 years, Carolyn (Dove) Gillespie.

David achieved a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and spent his career in social work for the State of Michigan. He retired in the year 2000 from the Children's Protective Services Division.

David was a great student of architecture, appreciating the work of great architects, especially Frank Lloyd Wright. He and Carolyn traveled extensively, and visited many structures designed by Wright. David designed and built a home on the Grand River in Dimondale, Michigan in which he and Carolyn lived for many years. They enjoyed being in nature, and canoeing and kayaking on the Grand River near their home and Lake Margrethe in northern Michigan.

David was a lifelong gun and knife collector. He and Carolyn also enjoyed collecting fine art together. Their travels took them to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and many states and national parks in the U.S., including Denali National Park & Preserve in Alaska.

David is survived by Carolyn's children, Carrie (David) Morton of Battle Creek, Michigan, Michael (Valoree) Wright and Kim (Kevin) Stahl of Jackson, Michigan, and their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Hugh G. Rouse (Leonard Olds) of Laguna Beach, California and a cousin, Rick (Fern) O'Beshaw of Wayland, Michigan.

At David's request, no public memorial service will be held. A private family time of remembrance will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48906 or The Nature Conservancy of Michigan, 101 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48906.
