Olivia Ford Wooding Overstreet, 90, of Roanoke, passed on into God's Eternity on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. Family and friends celebrated her 90th birthday in June of this year. She was born in Long Island, Va. on June 28, 1917, a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Ola Wooding and grew up in a country setting with her two sisters. She attended Madison Women's College and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Olivia then taught at Stewartsville High School until her marriage to Floyd Overstreet in 1942. The rest of her long life was devoted to her husband, children, extended family, friends, and church family. Her sweetness and love nurtured everyone in her life. Olivia taught Sunday School at Villa Heights Baptist Church for almost 50 years. She belonged to the Women's Missionary Union and thoroughly enjoyed membership in the Sugar Loaf Garden Club for over 30 years. She cooked thousands of meals, was famous for her dinner rolls and desserts, and kept a beautiful home always graced with fresh flowers. Her door was open to neighbors, family, and friends. Her words were constantly gracious and kind, and her spirit, sweet. She knew God's love. Her essence was and is the sweetness of a flower, soul beauty, and love. Her nature was to put the needs of others before her own. She listened and comforted with a ministry of home-made rolls and jam. Olivia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Floyd Wilson Overstreet; her children, Lee Overstreet and wife, Susan, of Roanoke, Susan Leonard and husband, Wen, of Vienna, Elizabeth Rich and husband, Chris, Charles E. Overstreet and wife, Pam, all of Salem; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Trumbull and husband, Scott, Tiffany Overstreet, Jarrett and Jessica Leonard, Elowyn Havlick and husband, Erik, Gaea Rich, Tyler, Vance, Nathan and Olivia Overstreet; her greatgrandchildren, Brittony and Alexandra Trumbull. A funeral service celebrating Olivia's life will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Harold C. Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
