Malena grew up in Springfield, Pennsylvania, where she attended Central Elementary School, and Springfield Junior and Senior High Schools. Malena had a beautiful singing voice was asked to sing at her High School graduation ceremony. Malena received a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation, she pursued a career in chemistry at Rohm & Haas Pharmaceuticals for two years. She became intrigued by the field of computer sciences, being one of a few women in the industry at that time. Thus ensued a career as a systems analyst at General Electric, Lockheed, Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Cal Comp. Malena married Sarhad Sarhadian in 1972 and had a son Sassoun. In 1975 she became a single mother and tried to raise her child in the best way possible. She retired in 1989. Malena continued her love of singing by joining the Knar Choral Group in Philadelphia as well as singing in the choir at St. Gregory’s Church in the past. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in the Armenian Sisters’ Academy. She had a great love for humanity and always tried to help others in every way possible. Malena was best known to be a good and true friend. She traveled extensively throughout the world. She thrived on intellectual and stimulating conversations and loved to laugh.
