Joseph M. Basilio, Jr., 83 formerly of Canastota, died Monday, in the Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Syracuse. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, at the family plot in St. Agatha's Cemetery.

Joseph M. Basilio, Jr., 83 formerly of Canastota, died Monday, August 31, 2020, in the Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Syracuse, where he had been a resident for the past six months . Born in Canastota, on July 22, 1937, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Picciano Basilio, Sr. A resident of the North Syracuse area for the past five years, moving from Canastota, Joe was graduate of Canastota High School. Prior to his retirement, Joe was employed with his nephew’s company, Syracuse Sausage Company in Texas and formerly owned and operated the Village Inn in Chittenango and Sergio’s Diner in Canastota. When residing in Canastota, he was a communicant of St. Agatha’s Church. Following the footsteps of his older brother’ Carmen, Joe was a professional boxer in his younger years, having participated in forty-one fights, with only one loss and one draw. Throughout the years, he was very involved with the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Surviving are his two daughters, Victoria Basilio of North Syracuse and Candace (Cody) Jorgensen of Omaha, Nebraska; his three grand-children, Arthur Homewood III, Joseph M. Basilio III and Mabel Kay Jorgensen; his two brothers, Armando Basilio of North Syracuse and Paul (Jean) Basilio of Canastota; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by six sisters, Jesse De Stassan, Lucy Cesarini, Matilda Mosca, Anna Wimmer, Nellie Backus and Delores Musacchio and one brother, Carmen Basilio. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, at the family plot family, in St. Agatha’s Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to attend, since there are no hours of visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 South Peterboro Street, Canastota.
