Thaddeus Scofield's parents were Henry Scofield (1760-1818) and Elizabeth Unknown (1764-1831) Their burial place is unknown, probably with his father Josiah in Greenfield. Perhaps Elizabeth's surname was Anderson, her granddaughter Elizabeth Anderson Scofield Wood, had Anderson as a middle name for some unknown reason. More research needed. Thaddeus Scofield was a soldier in the war of 1812. This cemetery resides on part of Thaddeus Scofield's farm.

"Thaddeus was a son of Henry Scofield, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and an early settler of Saratoga county, New York. Thaddeus moved to Philadelphia, Jefferson County, NY, in March, 1841, and engaged in farming and there died in November, 1860. He and wife were Baptists and were charter members of the church.
He married Mary, daughter of Daniel Wood, and they had four sons and four daughters, namely: Sally M. born in 1820, who died in 1831; Earl L., born in 1824, who was drowned in Indian River in 1841; Fanny J., born in 1822, who married J.H. Comstock; Sarepta W., born in 1829, who married William Holmes, of Philadelphia; Willet, born in 1831, now a resident of the state of Washington; Daniel H., born February 17, 1834, and Samuel B., born June 22, 1837, who resides in this town; and Eliza A., born in 1840, who married Jonathan Wood, of Washington County, N.Y."
