Lemuel enlisted in the Continental Army at Hartford Conn. in 1777. His Officers were Colonel Samuel Wylly and Captain Robert Warner. He was appointed Corporal. He fought in the engagement known as Stony Point and was presented with a good recommendation by his commander. He was sent home to gather provisions and clothing for Washington's starving troops at Valley Forge. He was later presented with a cane by his major for meritious conduct.
