Lemuel enlisted in the Continental Army at Hartford Conn. in 1777. His Officers were Colonel Samuel Wylly and Captain Robert Warner. He was appointed Corporal. He fought in the engagement known as Stony Point and was presented with a good recommendation by his commander. He was sent home to gather provisions and clothing for Washington's starving troops at Valley Forge. He was later presented with a cane by his major for meritious conduct. He served until the end of the war and was given an honorable discharge. ------- From the military records, pension department, Washington, D.C.

Lemuel Potter served in the Revolutionary War. While at home on leave, he married Lydia Barnes in February of 1779. Lydia was born in 1757.
Lemuel and Lydia had several children and raised their family in Gennessee County New York. Lemuel died in 1826 in New York and Lydia died about 1836 in Michigan.

Served in Continental Army 1777 through Feb 1780; militia companies before that.
