OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Sunday, 18 January 1998:
Veda Wherry
Services for Veda Wherry, 96, of Elkhart, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Elkhart, with the Revs. David Foster and Emmitt Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mrs. Wherry died Friday at Trinity Valley Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 18, 1901, in Elkhart, to Will and Emma Rebecca Davis Woodard.
Mrs. Wherry was a lifelong resident of Elkhart and a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer for 50 years and earned the Woman of the Year Award in Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gaddy Wherry, in 1971, and three sisters, four brothers, and a grandson.
She is survived by daughters, Emma Alice Golsan of Lindale and Grace Ann Spencer of Wimberley; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Elkhart.
