Philip J. Novess Sr., 72, of Ann Arbor, a summer resident of 2398 Bialik Road, Manistee, died Monday evening, June 25, 1990, at his summer home.

He was born August 19, 1917 in Ypsilanti, the son of the late Frank E. and Elsie (Schneider) Novess. He married Olive Linde on April 29, 1940 in Ann Arbor at Zion Lutheran Church. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past April.

They have spent their summers for the past 15 years in Manistee.

He was employed as a printer at Edward Brothers Inc., in Ann Arbor for over 30 years, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor.

Surving are his wife, Olive Novess of Ann Arbor; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Philip J. Novess Jr. of Manistee, and David J. and Marti Novess of Manistee; three grandchildren, Ryan, Alicia Joy, and Jenna Sue Novess; one brother, Frank E. Novess Jr of Reading; one sister-in-law, Ruth Novess of Ann Arbor, one aunt, Lydia Marz, also of Ann Arbor. Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor.

Memorials will be established in Philip's name for the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund and the Michigan Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee, a member of the Forethought Group, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
