Philip James Novess, Jr., of 2498 Bialik Road, Manistee, died Saturday afternoon, January 16, 1993 at West Shore Hospital in Manistee.

He was born September 25, 1942 in Ann Arbor, the son of Olive (Linde) Novess and the late Philip J. Novess, Sr. Philip was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Phil was employed as a book manager at Ulrich's Book Store in Ann Arbor until 1989. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor.

Survivors include: Olive Novess of Manistee and Manhester; one brother and sister-in-law, David J. and Marti Novess of Mancester; one nephew, Ryan Novess; two nieces, Alicia Joy and Jenna Sue Novess; one aunt, Ruth Novess of Ann Arbor; two uncles, Frank E. Novess Jr., of Hillsdale, and Beuford Rowe of Bremen, Ind.; numerous cousins also survive.

Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemtery in Manistee. Mr. Novess's cremated remains will be interred in the Norvell Cemetery.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor with Pastor Charles H. Akre officiating.

A memorial will be established in Phil's name for the Library Fund of Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor.

The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee, a member of the Forethought Group, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
