Tarvald Theodore Torkelson, 76, retired sawmill worker of Elkhart, died at 9 p.m. Thursday at his home following an illness of several months.
Born in Norway, Torkelson, before retiring five years age, had worked 25 years for Sawmill Operator Peter Bridges of Elkhart and nine years for the Angelina Hardwood Lumber Company in Palestine.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart with the pastor, Rev. U. Van Sickles, officiating. Burial will be in the Elkhart Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include J. E. de Noon, Floyd Brunson, Turner Jones, Earl Davis, Fred Ashley and S. B. Knott.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lydia Holcomb Torkelson of Elkhart; a son, Sophus Torkelson of Elkhart; two daughters, Mrs. L. H. Henderson, Jr. of Monroe, LA., and Mrs. E. T. Atwood of Hamshire; a brother Andrew Torkelson of Mountain Grove, Missouri; a sister, Mrs. Sophie Holland of Yamhill, Oregon; and eleven grandchildren.
The body will be at the family residence in Elkhart until taken to the church for funeral services. Arrangements are by Hassell and Foster.
