Paulette Carmelita (Chimot) Campbell, 89, of Jackson and formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Jackson County Medical Care Facility.

Paulette was born July 16, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan the adopted daughter and only child of Emile Henry and Louise L. Chimot. She grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1949 graduate of St. Philip High School. She graduated from Beauty School and was employed at White's Beauty Shop in the lower level of Michigan National Bank in downtown Battle Creek. Later in life, Paulette was employed Post Gardens and retired from DENSO Manufacturing.

Paulette was formerly married to Jerry Murdock Campbell. Surviving are her daughter, Gail (Campbell) Morris and her husband, David Morris of Jackson; a son, Terry (Alese) Campbell of Lodi, CA; two grandchildren, Scott (Smyth) Campbell, Charlie (Jerica) Campbell and two great-granddaughters, Sloane, Saylor. Paulette was preceded in death by her parents.

Paulette was a former member of St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church and St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. She was a three-year member and captain of the cheerleading squad at St. Philip High School. In her younger years, Paulette won the Goguac Lake Swim two years for her age group. She also competed as a diver at the former Youth Building in Battle Creek, where she met another young diver, Jerry Campbell. After retiring, she took up golf and won several tournaments at Riverside Country Club. Paulette enjoyed working the 3:00-11:00 shift at DENSO, so she could enjoy her mornings, working in her flower gardens, walking, biking and just being outdoors. She enjoyed her friendships with a group of ladies that enjoyed golfing, cross country skiing, attending or watching games and rooting for Michigan State University and going to breakfast together. Paulette will be remembered as a fun loving, strong, fiercely independent woman who valued friendships and family above all else.

Friends will be received (10:15 – 10:55) a.m. Thursday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 92 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek. Fr. John D. Fleckenstein will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the church. Committal and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Kool Family Center, 200 W. Michigan Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49017.
