She is survived by her daughter Sally J. Miller and son William (Lorie) Carpenter, Manchester, PA, a grandson William D. Carpenter, Tyrone and two great grandsons, Dawson and Gage Carpenter. Also surviving is her sister Mary Lou Varner, Lock Haven, sister in law Betty and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Donald, Robert, James Jr., brother-in-law John Varner and nephew Robert Patton.
Sara was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1942 and of Zeth Business School in 1944. During WW II she was employed by the Pittsburgh Steel Mill. Sara was an active community member. For fifty years she and her husband Bruce owned and operated Carpenter's Grocery Store in Tyrone. She had served as treasurer for the Tyrone Band Parents and was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and was a Den Mother for Cub Pack 100.
