Mary Lou Varner, 91, of Renovo Road, Mill Hall, passed away Sept. 3, 2018 at the Haven Skilled Rehabilitation and Nursing, Lock Haven.

She was born in Sandy Ridge, Pa. on March 22, 1927 to Robert and Freda Gibbons Patton [James G. and Freda M. (Gilson) Patton].

Mary Lou was a 1945 graduate of the Tyrone High School and moved to the Lock Haven area after being united in marriage on March 13, 1947 to John H. Varner, who passed away October 1998.

She was employed for eight years in the Robb Elementary School Cafeteria, Gardner’s Candy, and retired in 1989 after working for 16 years in the Lock Haven University Maintenance Department.

Mary Lou enjoyed cooking, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and her cat Kikkie.

Survivors include Terry (Elizabeth) Varner, of Newport, Tenn.; Donna Masaveg, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Cheryl Varner, of Woolrich; grandchildren, John Varner, of Manchester, Vt., and Ashley Varner and Tim Varner, of Burlington, N.C. and a great-grandson, Timothy Kiekel of Burlington, N.C.

In addition to her husband John, Mary Lou was preceded in death by three brothers Donald, James, and Robert Patton, Jr. and a sister Sara Carpenter.

Funeral services for Mary Lou Varner will be held Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be Pastor Susan Champion of the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church Mill Hall.

Friends and family will be received in the funeral home one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Mary Lou’s name to the Clinton County SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Rd., Lock Haven, Pa. 17745.
