Funeral services for Mr. David Lamar Goodwin, age 81, of Newellton, Louisiana, will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 21, 2020, at the United Pentecostal Church in Newellton, Louisiana, with his son, David Joel Goodwin, officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., Friday, prior to his funeral. Interment will be immediately following the funeral at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Chris Lindsey, Jimmy Lindsey, Kenneth Woodruff, Chris Baker, Cole Higginbotham, and Logan Estis.

Mr. Goodwin was born March 14, 1939, and went to be with Jesus on August 18, 2020.

He was a long-time resident of Newellton, Louisiana, and member of the United Pentecostal Church in Newellton. He was retired from the Louisiana State Highway Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey J. and Maggie Gossett Goodwin; brothers, Louis Goodwin, R. J. Goodwin, Charles Goodwin, Robert Goodwin, Harvey (Poochie) Goodwin, Richard Goodwin; sister, Maybelle G. Cardin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louie and Tressie Lindsey; and a granddaughter, Faith Goodwin.

He is survived by: his wife and best friend of 58 years, Joy Fay Goodwin; three children, David Joel Goodwin of Oak Grove, Louisiana, Pamela Joy Goodwin of Newellton, Louisiana and Donna G. Burns and her husband Scott of Tallulah, Louisiana; grandchildren, Chasity (Cheetchang) Estis and her husband Logan, Madelyn Grace Goodwin (Gracie), Summer Berry and her husband Jeb, Dakota Donley and Dylan Stewart; great grandchildren, David Liam, Sophia, Braxton David, Rhenn and Maddox; and host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was affectionately called "Dad" by Julie Chase (husband Melvin) and was "Pawpaw" to her sons, Preston and Conlan.

On March 14, 1939, David Lamar Goodwin was born in Waterproof, Louisiana, to the union of Harvey James Goodwin and Maggie Gossett Goodwin. He grew up on a farm with his father and mother, six brothers and one sister.

On May 27, 1962, he married the love of his life, best friend and sweetheart, Joy Fay Lindsey. He considered her family his family and became son to Louie and Tressie Lindsey and big brother to Jimmy (deceased), Donald (deceased), Coy, Sue, Kay and Renee.

He was known for his love for God and Church, his faithful love for his family, and his ability to make everyone feel loved and special. He brought life and color wherever he went. He was husband to Joy Fay; daddy to Donna, Pam and David Joel; pawpaw to a few, Bro. David to some, but a friend to all.
