Brother Julian Wozniak, OFM Conv., son of Jacob and Sophie (Przybyla) Wozniak, was born on September 12, 1905, in Chicopee, MA. His primary education was at St. Stanislaus School, Chicopee and his secondary at Cathedral High School, Springfield. Feeling the call of a religious vocation, he entered the community of the Conventual Franciscans, first as student from the priesthood and later as a lay brother. He began his Novitiate in Corpus Christi Parish, Buffalo, NY, on August 22, 1926.
Brother Julian spent twenty-five year as a chef in our Friaries: St. Joseph Cupertino Novitiate, Ellicott City, MD; St. Lawrence, Becket, MA; St. Francis High School, Athol Springs, NY. He took pride in his cooking and was considered by many as a gourmet chef, especially during the festive occasions of the Province. All meals were prepared with the greatest care, and where eaten with utmost enjoyment. There who lived with Brother Julian would sometimes unexpectedly a melodious and beautiful voice emanating from the choir loft of the chapel or some other portion of the Friary – the voice of Brother Julian. It was sonorous music with an operatic aria. Brother Julian met Sister Death at St. Francis High, Athol Springs, NY, on April 17, 1951, in the 45th year of his age and the 24th of his religious Profession. The service of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Chapel of St. Francis, Athol Springs, NY and later in St. Stanislaus, Bishop- Martyr, Church, Chicopee, MA. His mortal remains were laid to rest in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee, MA, on April 20, 1951. (Friars Plot, Grave 31.)
