Born in Attleboro on January 6, 1921, Mr. Fontneau was a son of the late Joseph N. and Mary Alice (Fountain) Fontneau. He was raised in Attleboro, graduated from St. Joseph's School and attended Attleboro High School.
Mr. Fontneau was employed as a foreman at Leach & Garner Company in Attleboro for fourteen years, retiring in 1985. Previously, he was employed at the Hillsinger Corporation in Plainville for eighteen years.
A lifelong resident of Attleboro, Mr. Fontneau was an avid sports fan, especially liking baseball. In his earlier years, he was an avid bridge player and worked for master points.
In addition to his beloved wife, Elizabeth, Mr. Fontneau is survived by two sons: Joseph F. Fontneau, Jr. of North Attleboro and John Joseph Fontneau of Attleboro; three daughters: Jeannine E. Oliver of Middleboro, MA, Joanne E. Cawley of Waterford, CT and Judith M. Kerttula of Uncasville, CT; a sister: Jeannette Beatty of Attleboro; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the loving grandfather of the late Sherry Ann Cawley who died on January 19, 1979.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 from 5 PM – 8 PM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 8 AM from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro celebrated by the Rev. Richard Roy, Pastor.
Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.
