Mrs. Hallett was one of the most respected and cultured women of Canisteo. She was a devout member of the Episcopal church of Canisteo and attended worship for as long as she was physically able. She was a charter member of the Shakespearean Club and took a prominent part in the literary work of the village.
She was born in Angelica, Dec. 26, 1852, and was 86 years old. Her parents were the late Uriah and Maryette Frace Ayers.
She leaves her daughter, Mrs. F. C. Sherwood; one brother, M. J. Ayers of Buffalo; 3 grandchildren, Mrs. Donald M. Jack of Hempstead, Long Island, Mrs. William E. Wintrich of Columbus, O., and Hastings Hallett of Hornell; and one great-grandson, Donald M. Jack, Jr.
The floral tributes were many and elaborate. The funeral was held from the Sherwood residence at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Rev. John Gilbert Spencer, pastor of the Episcopal church, officiated. Burial was made in Hillside cemetery." The Canisteo Times, September 7, 1939
