DENTON
Emma M., age 86, of Hiawassee, Ga., passed away November 27 following a period of declining health.
She was the daughter of the late Milton and Missouri Eller Maney, and the widow of Mr. J.Y. Denton.
She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church since 1920 and a Sunday School Teacher for more than 60 years. She was chairperson of the Towns County Chapter of the Cancer Society for a number of years, charter member of the Hiawassee Garden Club and a State and National Flower Show Judge. She was listed in Who's Who of America and a member of the DAR. She received the Golden Poet Award in 1987 for her poem "Live A Poem".
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Groves, of Hayesville, NC; Mrs. Eloise Anderson, of Warne, NC; Mrs. Jeanie Anderson, of Atlanta, GA; two sons, J.C. Denton and J. William Denton, both of Hiawassee, five brothers. Mr. Marlor Maney, of Hiawassee; Rome Maney and Fletcher Maney, both of Canton, OH; Hubert Maney, Medera, CA; J.B. Maney, Louisville, KY; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Mote, of Habersham Mills, GA; Mrs. Ruth Beck, of Canton, OH; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. from the Friendship Baptist Church, with Dr. Sammi Amari and The Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Interment in the Osborn Cemetery. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge.
