Hall of Fame Professional Hockey Player. For sixteen seasons (1981 to 1997), he played at the center position in the National Hockey League with the Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, St.Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers. Selected by Winnipeg as the number one overall pick during the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, he was the recipient of the Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) when he produced 45 goals, with 58 assists for the 1981-1982 season. He topped the 50-goal mark for the 1984-1985 season and achieved all star status that year. He contributed to the Philadelphia Flyers' reaching of the Stanley Cup Finals in 1997. In 1,188 career regular season games, he compiled 518 goals, with 891 assists. After retiring as a player, he coached in the Ontario Hockey League. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. He died from cancer.
