Mr. Atkins was a self-employed carpenter, retiring in Aprill 1988. Previously he had been a dispatch clerk at The Pantagraph.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a member of the Louis E. Davis American Legion Post 56, Bloomington.
Mr. Atkins was a member of Holy Trinity Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 574, Bloomington.
He was a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, to which memorials may be made.
