Virginia Harris Collins was the fourteenth and last child born to Francis Marion and Arkie Loretta Elms Harris in Waco, Texas. She spent her youth in a home filled with family where life centered in her Mama’s kitchen. During WWII she worked for a glass plant in Waco and was an outstanding player on their all-girls baseball team. In the mid 1940’s she went to work for Southwestern Bell in Waco later transferring to Corsicana, and then Dallas, where she remained until retiring in the 1970’s. In retirement she enjoyed church activities, dancing, fishing, bowling, trips with family and friends and her table was always open for a game of cards or forty-two dominos. She was the center of love and family for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews and her door was always open for friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and husband, Joe Otto Collins.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, though her memory will live on in their hearts.
