"Mrs. Effie BARNES, 74, of Comyn died in the Blackwell-Rogers hospital in Gorman, Sunday, August 31. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Baptist Church at Comyn with Rev. W. P. RAY of Comyn, Rev. W. T. SPARKMAN and Rev. O. H. REESE of DeLeon officiating. Burial was in the Comyn cemetery.”

"Mrs. BARNES was born July 1, 1878 in Springfield, Mo. She was married to John S. BARNES who passed away in 1915. For 55 years she has lived in the Comyn community.”

"Survivors are her daughters, Mrs. Ivor PAINTER, DeLeon; Mrs. Audie CHANDLER, Dublin; Mrs. Claudia OLIVER of California; Mrs. Hazel CYDE of Washington; Mrs. Naomi FREEMAN of San Antonio; Mrs. Crissie GODDARD of Tomball and Mrs. Pauline PAINTER of Comyn. Her sons are W. T. BARNES of DeLeon and John BARNES of Hearne. There is also one sister Mrs. BALDWIN of Fort Worth and two brothers, Oscar REID of Gorman and Gorver REID of Proctor.”

"Pallbearers were her nephews, Jessie Kermit BARNES, Tommy BARNES, B. L. BARNES, Jack BARNES, Buddy HUDSON, Milton CAMPBELL and Hubert CHANDLER."

She married John Barnes on Nov 15, 1898. Together they had 11 children.
Effie was widowed in 1915 at the age of 37. She was preceded in death by her husband John, infant daughter Ethel, and son Therman Reid Barnes.
