Appalachia, Va.-Shelby Jean McKinney, 81, went home to be with the Lord and rejoin with her husband and family on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at her home.
She worked at Appalachia Elementary School and for 20 years as a certified nursing assistant at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap. She attended Inman Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Clayton McKinney; great grandson Caiden Allen Simpson; parents, John and Rebecca (Wallen) Davis; and siblings, James Davis, John Marvin Davis, Jr., Dorothy Polly, Gladys Akers, Patricia Rose, Pauline Davis.
Surviving are her five daughters, Jackie Huneycutt and Jean Renee Lawson, both of Appalachia, Rebecca McKinney, Ann Seabolt and Angel Hall (Mark), all of Big Stone Gap; grandchildren, Lori Simpson(Jeff), William M. Huneycutt, III, Steven Isbell, Joshua Clayton Ayers (Deandra), Kayla Anderson, Christopher Southard, Kylee Seabolt, Zachary Lawson, Tabatha Bentley (Dustin), Brandon Hicks (Alyssa), and Logan Hall; great grandchildren, Tyler Isbell, Camara Isbell, Bentley Anderson, Irelynd Peak, Gannon Hicks, Lyla Hicks, Nora Bentley and Caleb Allen Simpson; siblings, Ruby Varner, Keokee, Va., Dewey Davis (Betty), Big Stone Gap and Delmer McKinney, Andover; sister-in-law, Marie McKinney, Bristol, Va.; nephew, Roger Akers, Inman; and several other; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave, W., Big Stone Gap, Va. The funeral service will follow at 6:00pm Sunday with Dr. Roy Smith officiating.
Committal graveside services will be at 12:00pm Monday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. The family and friends will meet at Gilliam Funeral Home by 11:20am to go in procession to the cemetery.
