STEWARTVILLE -- The funeral for Lurene R. Horstmann will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.
Mrs. Horstmann, 77, died Friday (Sept. 7, 2007) of natural causes following a lengthy illness at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville.
Lurene Roberta Markham was born April 11, 1930, in Spring Valley, where she grew up on the family farm. She attended rural school and Spring Valley High School. On Sept. 19, 1948, she married Earl Horstmann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatfield. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in rural Chatfield before moving to the family farm in rural Stewartville in 1954. She worked at the Rochester Methodist Hospital as a surgical supplies coordinator for more than 35 years until her retirement in 1991. She also worked part-time at the Coast-to-Coast store, Boyum's Grocery in Stewartville and at Sears in Rochester. After her husband died in June 1993, she moved in to Stewartville. She was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville and belonged to bowling leagues in Chatfield and Stewartville. She enjoyed quilting, traveling and playing cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan (Duane) Hodge of Stewartville; two sons, Robert (Cindy) and Hank (Barbara), both of Stewartville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, June Stetler of Stewartville, Jean Wynaucht of Rochester, and Katherine Russell of Stewartville. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and an hour before the service Monday at the church.
