The funeral service for June L. Stelter will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22 at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville with Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.

Mrs. Stelter, 88, of Stewartville, died from natural causes on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Stewartville Care Center, where she had been a resident since April of last year .
June Lavina Markham was born June 15, 1924 in Spring Valley to Robert and Lavina (Guy) Markham. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. She was employed at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester and then at Kresge's in Rochester.

June was married on Feb. 25, 1947 in Cresco, IA to Paul Schroeder. Following their marriage the couple lived in the Stewartville and Rochester area where June was employed for over 20 years at Kresge's, which later became K-Mart. Mr. Schroeder died in July of 1977. June was married on July 15, 1981 at the Stewartville Christian Church to Floyd Stelter. They lived in Stewartville and then moved to Austin, where they lived for a number of years. Mr. Stelter died in August of 1990 and June moved to Stewartville where she has lived since.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Stewartville and was a past member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Eagles Auxiliary, both in Austin. June enjoyed traveling, playing 500, reading, puzzles, baking, gardening and time spent with her family.

June is survived by one stepson and one step-granddaughter, Pauline Broge, and other stepchildren and step-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Russell of Stewartville and Jean Whynaucht of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents and a sister, Lurene Horstmann.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning.

The family suggests memorials to the New Van Fund at the Stewartville Care Center and to The Stewartville Center for Active Adults.
