The Flynns came to Gladwin in 1907 and he first operated a livery stable and feed barn. Selling out, he started a feed store and elevator in the building that recently served as the community building. Mr. Flynn later built an elevator at the railroad and incorporated, with Wolohan's in the twenties and remained as Gladwin manager until early in the nineteen-thirties when he sold his stock in the company and semi-retired. In later years, he had dabbled in real estate and automobiles. Mr. Flynn was an active Democrat and for many years headed the local group as chairman of the county committee.
He leaves his widow; seven sons, besides Fr. Flynn, Edward J., of Merrill, Dr. J. Donald Flynn, of Grand Rapids, Raymond P. and James G., of Gladwin, Dr. Robert U. Flynn, of Saginaw, and Wendall C., of Detroit; and three daughters, Mrs. Helen Husted, of Pontiac, Marguerite A. Flynn, of Detroit, and Mrs. Ruth Jean Falahee, of Royal Oak; 26 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Six sons, other than Fr. Flynn, were honorary pallbearers at the funeral.
