April 15, 1924 - December 14, 2019
Helen Emmajean (Warner) Myers passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Gracious Living Estates, where she had been a much-loved resident for many years. Born on April 15, 1924, the daughter of Earl and Emma Jean (Manning) Warner, Helen lived much of her life on the family farm in Bridgewater Township, Susquehanna County and she was intimately familiar with the flora and fauna of the pastures, fields, and woods surrounding her home.
Upon graduation from Montrose High School, Helen was awarded a full scholarship to study nursing at Syracuse University. Unable to complete her studies due to illness, Helen later joined her sister, Alice, in Washington D.C. during World War II where Helen worked in the federal government and met and married her husband, the late Ralph Marshall Myers. After many years living in Washington D.C. and in Maryland, Helen and Ralph returned to the family farm in Bridgewater Township where the family began to operate Warner’s Greenhouse. Following the death of her husband, she studied at the Pennsylvania State University and worked for the PA State Health Department. Helen eventually retired from the PA State Health Department to return to the family farm where she took great pleasure in sharing many rambling walks with her family in search of wildflowers in the spring and apples in the fall. With the help of her grandchildren, especially Chris Canfield, she filled her gardens and greenhouse with favorite vegetables and flowers, including sunflowers, morning glories, and scarlet runner beans. Helen was an avid reader, especially of botany, poetry, and philosophy, and loved all animals, especially dogs, and cats. She was a long-time member of the original Bridgewater Baptist Church in Montrose where her father, Earl Warner, served as deacon for many years.
Helen is survived by her daughter Karen (Herb Potter) Franks, Wellsboro; Laurel (Tim) Canfield, Montrose; and Elizabeth (Kenneth) Janoski, Montrose. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Jeanne Myers. Surviving grandchildren are Becky (Chris) Siminowski, Kelly (Mike Shankle) Griffin, and Matthew Myers; Chris Canfield, Melinda (Frank) Stieler, Diana (David Rounsaville) Canfield; Stephen Janoski. Surviving great grandchildren are Kara Griffin, Jenna Stieler, Shane Stieler, and Tyler Wickemeyer. Also surviving are nephews and nieces Russell (Effie) Breeze, Victoria Breeze, Russell Breeze Jr., and his children Christian and Colby; Joan Lloyd and her children Shannon and Garrett; Paul (Laura) Carlson, and Timothy (Elizabeth) Carlson. Helen’s faith sustained her when she was predeceased in death by her husband Ralph Marshall Myers; son, John Myers; grandson Eric Franks; son-in-law Jack Franks; sisters Alice Warner Lloyd and Myrtle Warner Carlson.
Services will be held on at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the South Montrose Community Church with Rev. Jane Pykus officiating. Interment follows the service at the South Montrose Cemetery. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service. The family is grateful for the care and comfort provided to Helen by the staff at Gracious Living Estates and by the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the pastoral comfort offered to Helen and her family by Rev. Pykus
