John Arland Myers

John Arland Myers, 62, Painted Post, N.Y., passed away October 20, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y. John is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Sheffer) Myers; two daughters, Rebecca Myers, and Kelly Griffin; one son, Matthew Myers; and a granddaughter, Kara Griffin, all of Raleigh, N.C.

Born in Washington DC, he was the son of Helen (Warner) Myers and the late Ralph Myers. John served in the Air Force during the Viet Nam war as an air traffic controller at Pleiku airbase.

He married Jeanne Sheffer on May 8, 1971, in Binghamton, N.Y.

John earned a master's degree in Industrial Engineering from Alfred University and was employed by Corning, Inc., as a Glass Technologist.

John's life was centered on his family. He loved to drive and enjoyed traveling with Jeanne and his children. He spent many hours at the family farm near Montrose, where he planted many fruit trees. His hobbies included John Deere tractors and muscle cars.

Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Helen Myers, Montrose; and three sisters: Mrs. Karen Franks, Mansfield, Pa., Laurel (Mrs. Tim) Canfield, and Elizabeth (Mrs. Kenneth) Janoski, both of Montrose Pa.

Friends called at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, Corning, N.Y., October 24, 2008. Funeral services were held later that day at Bridgewater Baptist Church, Montrose, with interment at South Montrose Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in John's name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Central New York Chapter, 401, North Salina Street, Learbury Centre, Syracuse, N.Y. 13203-1770.
