Robert J. Gallagher, 87, a lifetime Poughkeepsie resident, passed away peacefully on July 13 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Born on December 25, 1930, he was the son of Charles Gallagher and Marion (Cunningham) Gallagher.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the City of Poughkeepsie Water Department until his retirement in 1986, and was a bartender for many years at the Italian Center in Poughkeepsie.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara; sons, Robert Gallagher and his wife, Chris; Kevin Gallagher and his wife, Christine; and daughter, Karen Ott. Robert is also survived by four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Edward, James, and William; and two sisters, Jean and Catherine.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from 10-11 a.m. at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., 4365 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
