Edward F. Gallagher, 64, a plumber and steamfitter for 35 years until his retirement in 1980, died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Gallagher was a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie.

He was a member of Local 201 of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 275. He also was a member of the Shamrock Club and Mount Carmel Sportsmen's Club.

Mr. Gallagher served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Hyde Park.

Mr. Gallagher was born Sept. 29, 1921 in Poughkeepsie, the son of Charles Gallagher and Marion Cunningham. He was educated in Poughkeepsie schools.

Mr. Gallagher was married in 1943 in St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie to Catherine McCormack, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Martinez of Kingston; a son, Edward J. Gallagher of Alexandria, Va.; four brothers, Robert Gallagher, Joseph Gallagher, James Gallagher, and William Gallagher, all of Poughkeepsie; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Gover of Pleasant Valley and Mrs. Jean Heisler of Poughkeepsie; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fraleigh Funeral Home, 41 Marshall St., Poughkeepsie.

The Elks will hold services at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Family prayers will follow. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Church, Hyde Park.

Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
