Arnold Wilding Coon, 81, passed away May 31, 2007, in Ogden, Ut.

He was born September 24, 1925, in Salt Lake City to Chester Nelson Coon and Clara Cornelia Wilding. He joined the Navy at age 17, and started his dream of becoming a pilot on a sea plane. However, circumstances were such that he felt World War II would end before he had a chance to fight overseas. Feeling strongly his patriotic duty, he gave up that dream and a potential commission and became a tailman gunner, serving his country in the Pacific. While in pre-flight training in Minnesota, Arnold met Arlene (Judy) Pesina, an Army nurse cadet. After only a week together, they spend the next three years in a long-distance courtship, finally marrying on July 8, 1947, in Silver Lake, Minnesota. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 20, 1953.

Arnold graduated from the University of Utah in 1948 in Civil Engineering. After starting his own consulting practice as a structural engineer, he soon formed a partnership as Coon and King Engineers, later incorporating as Coon, King and Knowlton Engineers. In 1982, he sold his financial interest and concentrated his consulting practice on forensic engineering on behalf of the insurance industry and legal profession. He sold his business to Dean L. Webb in 1994, and became a consultant to the new entity of Coon and Webb Engineers until a later, final retirement. He enjoyed both national and local recognition as a top engineer in his field. He enjoyed both national and local recognition as a top engineer.

Arnold was an active High Priest in the LDS Church, and he served in many capacities throughout his 50 years as a member of the Holladay/Mt. Olympus 7th Ward, setting a great example for his children. The legacy he left to his posterity includes his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, hard work, and integrity.

He is survived by his wife; children: Steven (Jan), Anchorage, Alaska; Debbie (Rick) Worthen, Layton; Gary (Ann), Redmond, Washington; Lori (Thor) Duffin, El Dorado Hills, California; and Heidi (Dennis) Wheatley, Brigham City; 26 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Richard, brother Lester, sister Lavina, sons Greg and Mark, and infant great-granddaughter. A special thanks to Apple Tree Assisted Living in Kaysville for helping him increase his quality of life the past year, and to Mt. Ogden Rehab for their recent professional and tender care. Memorial services were held Tuesday at 12 noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary,
