Son of Archibald Black McDougald and Nepsy Buie. His first marriage was to Winnie Ann Ledbetter. They married on November 5, 1879 in Kaufman County. To this union five children were born. George Henry, Cullen, Nepsy, Archie P. and Sarah E. In January of 1890, Winnie became ill, was dying. She pleaded with her sister, Sarah Elizabeth Ledbetter Allen to marry William and raise her children. Winnie died on January 6, 1890. On June 1, 1890, Sarah married William. A marriage that lasted over 50 years. To this union four children were born. Thomas Calvin, Robert B, Marvin, and William Floyd. William Hugh was a farmer in the Stubbs Community of Kaufman County. He also donated to Kaufman County, the land that became the Shiloh Cemetery.
