Mary was the daughter of David Alexander and Henry Etta Cox Barton. Mary married Edward Paris Shirey. They were the parents of Stephen Alexander Shirey, Martha Etta Shirey Woolverton Hagan, Florine Shirey Hairston, Modelle Olga Shirey Hargrove, Lizzie Bess Shirey, and Glenna Marie Shirey Johnson. After Edward's death, Mary married an Alexander.

ELKHART -- Services for Mrs. Mary Shirey Alexander, 94, Shreveport, formerly of Elkhart and Brushy Creek, are set for 2 pm. Wednesday at Hassell & Foster Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Nolan Logan and the Rev. Bob Lewis officiating.
Burial will be in Garden of Memories at Elkhart.
Mrs. Alexander died Monday in a Shreveport nursing home following a brief illness.
She was born March 2, 1896, in Upshur County. She was a resident of Shreveport the past eight years and a member of the Assembly of God Church. She attended Life Tabernacle.
Survivors include a son, Stephen A. Shirey of Lufkin; three daughters, Mrs. Martha Hagan of Shreveport, Mrs. Modelle Hargrove of Shreveport and Mrs. Glenna Johnson of Houston; two brothers, L. T. Barton and Boyd Barton, both of Fort Worth; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Hortman and Mrs. Olga Keetch, both of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
